Anyone interested in serving as mayor or on city council needs to return candidate papers and signatures this week to their city clerk.
The deadline to file is 5 p.m. Thursday. Municipal elections are Nov. 5.
Candidate papers are available from city clerks. Each candidate, including incumbents, needs petition signatures of persons eligible to vote from the area the candidate represents. Check with the city clerk about the number of signatures needed; it is a percentage based on population of the area represented.
In Fairfield, the mayor and four city council seats are up for election.
Fairfield City Clerk Joy Messer said the mayor?s seat needs 11 eligible-to-vote signatures. Two at-large council seats, currently held by Connie Boyer and Jessica Ledger-Kalen, need 10 signatures each.
The council positions of John Revolinski, representing Ward 2, and Michael Halley, representing Ward 4, also need 10 signatures each.
As of Monday morning, Revolinski has turned in filing papers to run in Ward 2 and Doug Flournoy has filed to run as a city council member at-large.
?More people than that have taken out papers,? said Messer. ?I know they are probably waiting to the last minute. But I want to remind everyone about the deadline.?
Malloy told The Ledger he plans to file to re-run as Fairfield mayor.
