Final legislative forum in Fairfield canceled
Apr. 20, 2023 10:58 am
FAIRFIELD — The final legislative forum of the year that was planned for Saturday, April 22 at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.
Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mendy McAdams indicated that the two legislators who were slated to appear at the forum, Iowa Reps. Jeff Shipley and Helena Hayes, would not be able to attend due to other conflicts. However, they were unable to come to an agreement on a makeup date, so the forum has been canceled. Iowa Sen. Adrian Dickey is normally part of the forums, too, though he had informed the chamber earlier that he would not be able to attend the April 22 forum.
This forum planned for April 22 was supposed to be a makeup for the forum that was scheduled for March 18, but was canceled due to conflicts with the legislators’ schedules.
Rep. Helena Hayes’s House District 88 includes all of Keokuk County, the eastern half of Mahaska County including Oskaloosa, and the northern half of Jefferson County, excluding Fairfield.
Rep. Jeff Shipley’s House District 87 includes the southern half of Jefferson County including Fairfield, all of Van Buren County and the southwest corner of Henry County, including Mt. Pleasant.
Sen. Adrian Dickey’s Senate District 41 is a combination of House District 87 and 88.
