Fairfield Fire Department responded at 10:17 a.m. Wednesday to a brush fire west of Pleasant Lake. The fire was extinguished with water and firefighters stayed on the scene until 12:45 p.m. Fire chief Scott Vaughan said five acres or less had burned on the set aside land. Firefighters had first responded to at this area for a brush fire at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday and extinguished it by 5:30 p.m. They were called back out at 6:15 p.m. for fire that sprang from smoldering pine needles and were on the scene until 8:47 p.m. Tuesday. Vaughan said this morning it was not possible to see embers under the pine needles and growth while putting out the fire in the dark Tuesday. Returning Wednesday morning enabled better sight and Vaughan said the area was soaked thoroughly with fire hoses. The hot dry summer has left a lot of dry ground cover, he said.
