The Fairfield Fire Department responded at 8:09 p.m. Saturday to 1945 Gear Avenue. A three-sided farm building/storage facility was a total loss for owners Tom and Karen Krumboltz. A freezer in the shed had an electrical short that ignited and caught nearby books and paper on fire. About a half-acre burned, two vehicles and 12 large round bales, for a total estimated loss of $25,000.

Firefighters responded to a request for lift assistance at 5 a.m. Saturday, at 708 S. Fourth St. Four firefighters assisted ambulance workers with lifting.
A reported gas smell was investigated at 11:35 p.m. Friday at 701 Kirkwood.
Five firefighters responded to Fir and Highway 34 at 1:43 p.m. Friday for a trash fire that spread to the ditch.
Two firefighters used two bags of oil dry at 180th and S. Alina at 12:04 p.m. Friday.
