LOCKRIDGE ? A house about 6 miles north of Lockridge caught fire Monday night and kept firefighters busy for hours.
The house was at 3140 160th Street between Lockridge and Brighton. Jeremy Loving, Lockridge fire chief, said his department received the fire call at about 9:30 p.m. Monday. Firefighters responded and saw the fire had touched about 10 percent of the house and was raging strong.
The fire was doing significant structural damage to a new addition on the house near the fireplace, which is where Loving believes the fire started. With the help of the Fairfield and Brighton fire departments, the Lockridge firefighters were able to put out the blaze before it consumed the whole house. Loving said his firefighters finally left the scene at 1:30 a.m. today.
One person was in the home at the time, and that person was able to escape unharmed. Loving said the house is now uninhabitable, and the person who escaped is going to stay with family in the area.
