The First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant delivered 34 totes to the Mt. Pleasant Community School District's elementary schools on Thursday morning.
Inside the cartons were 604 children's books.
The church delivered enough books to offer every child preschool through third grade a book of their own.
This donation is part of the church's Change A Child's Story ministry program. The program is one of the many ways the church delivers books to children in the district.
The program began in January 2016. Since that time, 6,982 books have been delivered to children in the Mt. Pleasant school district.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the church would volunteer as readers. They would go to the elementary schools and read to the children. This is something they hope to continue in the future.
Volunteer reading and donating books to schools is one of the church's most impactful ways to make a difference in the community while promoting children's literacy.
