Flags in Fairfield’s Central Park honor veterans on Veterans Day

Students from Fairfield Middle School assisted in putting up flags in Fairfield's Central Park Wednesday morning in honor of Veterans Day.
Fairfield Fire Chief Scott Vaughan said the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2271 has taken on the responsibility of putting up the flags, but it's getting harder for the organization to secure enough volunteers to perform the task. Vaughan appeared before the City Council to ask if he and other city employees could perform the task, and the council agreed.
Vaughan got help from Fairfield Middle School students and teachers, who met at Central Park at 7 a.m. Wednesday and had finished putting up the flags by 8 a.m. City employees are planning to take the flags down first thing Thursday morning.
