FAIRFIELD – A Florida man was arrested Sunday, Dec. 29 after leading law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase through Fairfield.
Matthew Terry Jefferson-Wood, 24, of Ocala, Florida, was charged with eluding, interference with official acts and reckless driving upon his arrest at 4:02 a.m. on 200th Street just east of Fairfield. According to an arrest report from Iowa Courts Online, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a 2004 Dodge Dakota with an Iowa license plate. The deputy approached the vehicle and spoke to Matthew Jefferson-Wood, who then sped away from the scene, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit through Jefferson County and Fairfield.
The report indicates that the pursuit lasted about 15 minutes, and that on several occasions Jefferson-Wood “exceeded the posted speed limit in excess of 25 MPH.” Jefferson-Wood later exited his vehicle and led officers on a foot chase before he was apprehended two blocks away from where the car stopped.
