FMS gets one from Ottumwa
The Fairfield eighth-grade boys? basketball team couldn?t get one final shot to fall at the buzzer and the ?A? team was saddled with its first loss of the season, 30-29 vs. Ottumwa, Thursday evening.
Mason Ellis scored 11 points to go with seven rebounds for the Trojans, Joe Hietpas added six points and Jordan Whitney scored four points and had three steals. Landon Gamrath also scored four for Fairfield.

The Fairfield eighth-grade boys? basketball team couldn?t get one final shot to fall at the buzzer and the ?A? team was saddled with its first loss of the season, 30-29 vs. Ottumwa, Thursday evening.
Mason Ellis scored 11 points to go with seven rebounds for the Trojans, Joe Hietpas added six points and Jordan Whitney scored four points and had three steals. Landon Gamrath also scored four for Fairfield.
The ?B? team, led by eight points from Tristan Downing, got past Ottumwa with a 22-13 victory. Keegan Drish and Nathan Haerr each ripped down eight boards, and Drish, Haerr and Austin Laudermann scored four points apiece.
The ?C? team was blanked 21-0 with four rebounds each going to Dillon Shelby and Robert Winland.
The Trojans will be in action again Monday at home vs. Fort Madison.
Seventh-grade girls drop three games
The Fairfield seventh-grade girls? basketball team failed to get into the win column for the second straight week to begin the season.
The ?A? team fell 31-20 at Ottumwa led by seven points and eight rebounds from Mackenzie McClure. Addison Thornton scored seven points, Karley Williams tacked on six points and six rebounds and Maddy Mineart corralled nine boards.
Alyssa Fitch scored a bucket in the ?B? team?s 11-2 loss and Paris Buckham scored two in the ?C? team?s 6-2 two-quarter loss.
The Trojans will be on the road vs. Fort Madison Monday.
