Former Fairfield golf coach sentenced for DUI
FORT MADISON (AP) ? The former Fairfield High School golf coach who pleaded guilty to drunken driving while transporting the team to a tournament has been sentenced to 180 days in jail, but will receive credit for time already served.
The Des Moines Register reported that 59-year-old Susie Lynn Steinbeck, of Fairfield, was sentenced Tuesday in Lee County District Court for operating while intoxicated and child endangerment.
She was stopped by a private citizen on May 10 in southeast Iowa, when an Iowa Highway Patrolman arrived. Court records show she had a preliminary blood-alcohol level of 0.212 ? more than twice Iowa?s legal limit to drive.
Her attorney, Curtis Deal, of Keokuk, says Steinbeck is glad to put the matter behind her and move on with her life.
Steinbeck also was fined more than $1,800.
Fairfield school district officials placed Steinbeck on administrative leave from her extracurricular golf and swim coaching duties and her computer class teaching position. The school board accepted her resignation June 13.
