OTTUMWA (AP) ? Former state Sen. Donald Gettings, who served in the Senate for 22 years, has died.
Gettings died Monday at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was 87.

Gettings died Monday at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was 87.

Gettings was a 1942 graduate of Ottumwa High School and the Ottumwa Courier says he worked at John Deere Ottumwa Works for 38 years. He served in the Iowa House of Representatives for three terms before being elected to the state Senate. He retired from the Senate in 2001.
Colleagues and friends call Gettings a mentor who wasn?t shy about giving advice.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ottumwa.
