WASHINGTON — The Washington County Pork Producers will prepare and serve 1,000 pork burger meals in a drive-thru event at the Washington County Fairgrounds Wednesday night, Oct. 9.
Event organizer Amanda Adam said the group hoped to help feed community members on a busy night of the week, and promote the protein during National Pork Month.
“I really hope the event will make people go out and buy more pork than they have previously been buying, and consider putting pork on the menu more times a week,” she said. “I think that’s just a great opportunity for the industry.”
The sandwiches will come with chips, a cookie, an apple, a bottle of water and a $1 Fareway coupon. Adam said the containers would also include an industry impact statement made by the Iowa Pork Producers.
The drive-thru event is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Washington County Fairgrounds Oct. 9. Organizers ask that those attending use the Highway 1 entrance to the fairgrounds, on the east side.
