Friday morning power outage hits Washington

WASHINGTON — A brief power outage disrupted morning routines for 1,210 Alliant Energy customers in and around Washington’s downtown Friday morning, according to a company spokesperson who said a squirrel “got into equipment” but did not touch a power line.
“That can happen from time to time, so our crews were able to respond quickly and safely” the spokesperson said. “We know it’s not easy to lose power in the morning, but we’re proud that our crews were able to get out there and correct everything as quick as possible.”
The spokesperson said all customers had their lights back on within an hour of the outage’s onset shortly before 8:30 a.m.
