Friends of the Harlan-Lincoln House present the 2016 Brown Bag Lecture Series
Friends of the Harlan-Lincoln House will host their annual Brown Bag Lecture series every Tuesday in March. All presentations are held at noon in the International Room at Chadwick Library, Iowa Wesleyan University. There is no charge. Guests are invited to bring a lunch.

Tuesday, March 1 - Ladies of the Library
Martha Johnson serves on the Board of Trustees of the Mount Pleasant Public Library and will give a history of the efforts of local women to establish a library in the community.
Tuesday, March 8 - Iowa?s Role in
World War I
Loren Horton, retired senior historian at the State Historical Society of Iowa, will present a program on World War I, concentrating on how the war affected Iowans. The Loren Horton Community History Award, presented annually by the State Historical Society, is named in his honor.
Tuesday, March 15 - Belle Babb Mansfield: Trailblazer for Women Lawyers
Emily Gould Chafa currently manages the Unemployment Insurance Appeal Bureau for Iowa Workforce Development. She co-founded I.O.W.A.?s Arabella Mansfield Award, which honors a woman lawyer who promotes and nurtures women in the legal profession. Arabella ?Belle? Babb Mansfield, I.W.U. graduate, was the first woman admitted to practice law in the U.S.
Tuesday, March 22- Mrs. James Harlan: Ann Eliza Peck
Pat White, local historian and Friends of the Harlan-Lincoln House board member, will give a presentation on Ann Eliza Peck, her family, her accomplishments and her lifetime with the Senator.
March 29 - Iowa?s Own Monuments Man: George Stout
Nancy Trask, Winterset Library Director, will share the story of Winterset native Lieutenant George Leslie Stout and how he worked during World War II to protect important monuments and historical buildings from bombings.
Note: In the evening, Main Street Cinema will show the 2014 feature film, The Monuments Men, starring George Clooney portraying George Stout.
