First Tis The Season Fun Day fulfills its goal

Saturday, July 29 began with a small storm in the early hours of the morning.
The organizers of the Fun Day breathed a sigh of relief when they realized the storm had helped by bringing relief from the warm weather.
Fun Day families began the day with breakfast at Dover Museum. While breakfast was being served, car lovers were finding space along the west side of the park.
The parade began at 11 a.m. A float prepared by the New London County Club reminded everyone of the long tradition of that popular camping spot. Henry County Fair royalty made a first appearance.
These young ladies will have a busy year as ambassadors for Henry County and agriculture throughout the county and state.
A wide variety of vehicles joined the parade. Included were several vintage favorites much loved by everyone.
Of course, the New London Fire Department made sure everyone was alerted to the festivities as they sounded their horns and sirens.
By the time all the candy had been gathered along the parade route, Hometown Vet was ready to serve lunch.
The grill was going full blast as people waited patiently. Close by, the dunk tank offered chances to show just how accurately one could throw. The few dunks did not splash far enough to wet the food line.
Vendors at the Northwest corner of the park had many interesting items to purchase ranging from just fun sculptures to food.
At the Southwest corner the Community basket was displayed. The raffle tickets sold for this item were the only fundraiser offered by Tis The Season.
The VFW auxiliary bake sale had scrumptious offerings. Thank heavens all the calories leak out when you break the item.
The bag tournament was set up on the east side of the square and contestants were busy registering. After signing up, practice started as teams determined the right distance and speed to throw the bags.
Tis the Season designed the day to be a thank you to the community for the all the support it has given to children and adults in need throughout the years.
Activities for children abounded and were free. From bounce houses and slides to gunny sack races and tug of war there was plenty to do.
The Season organizers, volunteers and community businesses deserve recognition and thanks for this midsummer break for fun and relaxation.
