Gary Ray Buffington

Gary Ray Buffington, 75, of Winfield, died Tuesday Nov. 25, 2014, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center.

According to his wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be Saturday Nov. 29, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Winfield First Responders.

The son of Kenneth and Dorothy (Peters) Buffington, he was born August 10, 1939, at the family farm in rural Columbus Junction. On August 14, 1965, he married Nancy Long at Ottumwa. He was a graduate of the Winfield High School and was a member of Spring Run Church. He served in the Army Reserves in earlier years and was a farmer.

Buffington was survived by one son, Michael Buffington, of Rogers, Ark.; one daughter, Rhonda Connop, of Winfield; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Karen Buffington of Columbus Junction.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother.

Honts Funeral Home in Winfield is in charge of the arrangements.
