FAIRFIELD – A gas leak at the intersection of East Broadway and North C Street in Fairfield forced law enforcement to close the area to traffic for a few hours Tuesday morning.
Fairfield Police Lt. Joel Smith said the leak was caused when a contractor struck a gas line. Fairfield Police, Fairfield Fire and CARE Ambulance responded to the scene. Broadway Avenue was closed for about three hours before the gas line could be secured.
Smith said a fire engine was called to the scene in case the gas ignited, but it did not. He said there were no injuries from the gas leak. He said the gas leak was unrelated to the road construction occurring a block east of there at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and D Street.
