WASHINGTON — A donation drive seeking Christmas gifts for four Washington kids displaced just before the holiday was successful, according to city officials.
City police and fire department officials announced the project shortly after a Washington couple was arrested, leaving four children in their house under the care of Iowa Department of Health and Human Services staff. Organizers sought clothing, school supplies, snacks and toys for girls between the ages of 3 and 11, with donations dropped off at city hall between Dec. 21 and 23.
In a social media post near the end of that window, officials said the drive was a success.
“Thank you! Thank you!” read a post on the Washington Police Department’s Facebook page, the morning of Dec. 23. “We're continuing to sort and wrap the items of your generosity.”
