Girls, boys win at Centerville

CENTERVILLE ? The Mt. Pleasant girls? track and field team scored in all 19 events and took the top spot in all but one relay to claim the team title at the Centerville Co-Ed yesterday.

The Panthers capitalized on their opportunity to compete against 3A teams, winning six of seven relays: the 4x100, 4x200, 4x800, sprint medley, distance medley and shuttle hurdle. They took second place in the 4x400.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Leslie Taylor, Kelsey Smith, Kelsi Phipps and Taylor Shull finished in 52.79 secconds. The 4x200 team of Taylor, Sierra Wyse, Smith and Hattie Liechty won in 1:53.40, and the 4x800 team of Elaina Conrad, Natalie Myers, Natalie Ita and Taryne Shull ran its race in 10:24.71.
In the sprint medley, Chelsey Stark, Smith, Grace Lutovsky and Wyse finished in 2:02.88, while the distance medley team of Liechty, Smith, Emma Ludwig and Chloe Haffarnan claimed first in a time of 4:35.62.
The shuttle hurdle team of Stark, Becker, Taylor and Phipps finished in 1:06.73.
Individual winners were Hannah Becker in both the 100-meter hurdles (16.11 seconds) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.11), as well as Taryne Shull in the 800-meter run (2:33.28).
Overall, the girls scored 168 points as a team for the win. They came in 45 points ahead of second-place Davis County.
The Panther boys? team won five events at the meet and also took first place as a team.
The 4x800 team of Clayle Franklin, Drew Perry, Alex Ita and Nate Smith placed first with a time of 9:08.69, and the shuttle hurdle team of Cole Phillips, Kendall Porth, Tommy Thorne and Brandon Moorman won its event with a finish time of 60.20.
In individual events, Zach May took gold in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:33.60, and Moorman was a double winner, with first-place finishes in the 110-meter high hurdles (14:59) and the 200-meter dash (22.80 seconds).
As a team, the Panthers placed first with 157 points, 41 points ahead of host team Centerville, the second-place finisher.
