Gold rush: Four gymnasts finish first

WAVERLY ? Trampoline competition continued for a group of gymnasts representing the Fairfield Park and Recreation Department Saturday at the Beach Party Bash in Waverly.
In total, 11 local gymnasts competed at the meet ? the second trampoline event of the year ? and four athletes brought home first-place trophies.
Winners of their respective divisions included Kiara Bickham (8-year-old Beginner Girls), Nicholas Kaska (9-10 Beginner Boys), Maggie Ferrel (13-14 Novice Girls) and Juliette Pohren (8-and-under Sub-Advanced Girls).
A second-place trophy was awarded to 10-year-old Olivia McClaran in the Novice Girls Division, and Kristin Burnstedt earned third place in the 13- and 14- year-old Sub-Advanced Girls Division. Taryn Scheuermann finished fourth among 10-year-olds in the Beginner Girls Division.
Fifth-place trophies were won by Michelle Zhang (9-year-old Beginner Girls) and Ella Pollet (11-12 Intermediate Girls). Sarah Swanson received a seventh-place trophy in the 13- and 14-year-old Intermediate Girls Division, and Ashlyn Elmore picked up an eighth-place trophy in the same event.
The team, which is coached by Jeff and Jeanne Ide of Brighton, will travel to Truro next weekend for its third trampoline meet of the season.
