Grain wagon spills north of Brighton

BRIGHTON — A Washington County deputy and state DOT vehicle were called to the scene for traffic control after a grain wagon broke down just north of the Skunk River bridge in Brighton Monday afternoon.

A police report in Washington County’s Call For Service Log Nov. 6 said a caller had requested assistance as he was “getting his grain wagon out of the ditch.”

Photos from the scene obtained by The Union show the wagon moved up to the roadside along Highway 1, but tipped on its side with what appeared to be a broken axle, as skid steers and people worked to pick up spilled grain from an adjacent field.

It was not immediately clear from police reports how the farm equipment broke, or how long traffic control measures were in place.
