MT. PLEASANT - The city of Mt. Pleasant has received a $100,000 Wellmark Foundation Grant for Phase 6 of its Jefferson Street Trail Connection.
The City Council approved a resolution to authorize Mayor Steve Brimhall to sign the Wellmark Foundation Grant Agreement at its meeting on Wednesday evening.
For the project, the city also received a $250,000 enhancement grant from the Department of Transportation, city administrator Brent Schleisman said. Total cost of the project runs approximately $477,000.
The new segment of the trail will span just over a mile and will run from Saunders Park to the Mt. Pleasant Family Aquatic Center. With the new project, the city will have completed just shy of 10 miles of the 10-foot wide concrete trail.
'The first phase was in 1990 - it takes a while. It's an ongoing project for the city for the foreseeable future,” Schleisman said.
The city administrator added construction is set to start on Aug. 10 and finish sometime in the fall.
