WASHINGTON - WCDC received one of 10 inclusive health and recreation mini grants.
The grant is titled '18 Weeks to Happy and Healthy” and is aimed at teaching and promoting good nutrition and healthy living to the clients.
The grant is in partnership with the University of Iowa. It was for more than $3,400 and runs through June.
WCDC will be using a 'Look, Cook and Eat” website that was built to make cooking easy for people with intellectual disabilities. It teaches healthy planning, cooking and eating.
To further encourage healthy activity, WCDC has partnered with the YMCA to set up fitness measurements and plans for clients. The fitness measurements are taken again after 18 weeks to show how they have progressed.
On Tuesday, the clients started the program by making fruit kebabs, while others visited the LookCookAndEat.com website to plan healthy meals.
