Gravel roads pose challenges with snow, wind

Tuesday morning, Henry County Supervisor Chad White had to miss the board meeting due to vehicles stuck in the snow.
'I live out in the country on gravel, and a couple of my neighbors tried to get out using 2-wheel drive. Unfortunately they got stuck and blocked the road to the highway,” White said. 'It didn't take too long to get them unstuck, but by the time I got to the courthouse, I had just missed the meeting.”
White is not the only person who has had issues with the gravel roads in Henry County. County Engineer Jake Hotchkiss said there were numerous calls during week about the conditions of gravel roads.
'It keeps snowing, and with that snow comes wind that creates pretty bad snow drifts,” Hotchkiss said. 'We're asking for patience as we meander through. My guys are putting in lots of 12-hour days just to get these roads opened up, and even if there's one house on a one mile block that's trapped in, that's still a problem for us.”
White praised the county's roads crew for their hard work and diligence.
'I know our road guys are doing everything they can to open up the roads, and I can confirm that my road is looking better already,” White said. 'This winter has been hard in the fact that it's snowed so much in a short amount of time, but at least the sun has been out and the wind has died down for now.”
