WASHINGTON - The Washington Public Library is hosting a 'Great Library Bake-off.”
A Zoom cake decorating competition will take place Saturday, Jan. 30.
Librarian Jenisa Harris said last year, her and her husband were looking for fun activities to due during the peak of COVID-19 home isolation. She loves baking competitions shows such as 'Nailed it” and 'The Great British Baking Show,” so they attempted to try it themselves.
The pair made cakes and had an hour to decorate it based on a picture.
This inspired her to recreate it for the library.
The competition can be done in household teams or individually. Each team is asked to bake and cool two round cakes ahead of time and have chocolate icing or frosting.
Harris said the teams will be shown a picture and given 45 minutes to recreate it. She will judge it, and the winner will receive a baking-themed prize.
'It will be fun to see what they come up with,” she said.
So far, seven teams have signed up. To sign up, email jenisa.harris@washington.lib.ia.us.
Harris hopes to continue the event in the future with in-person events and multiple judges.
