The Greater Jefferson County Fair kicked off Monday night with the fair parade from Fairfield High School to the city’s downtown.
Local businesses and organizations made floats for the occasion, and they were joined by drivers of antique tractors and horseback riders. Children left the parade with enough candy to last them through the end of the fair, which runs until Sunday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
Patrons can look forward to entertainment in the grandstands, and various free activities for kids in the show arena and midway. Kenny’s Funland is back providing carnival rides.
Greater Jefferson County Fair posted on its Facebook page that there will be over 20 booths in the McCleary Building this year. The public is invited to check out those vendors and other organizations sharing their mission.
Jefferson County Farm Bureau Kid’s Day will be Friday, June 28 and feature the Jefferson County Farm Bureau booth from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., plus kids’ activities all day from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. including the Saw Dust Dig. The Ohana Pedal Pull will begin at 6 p.m.
The Fourth Annual Drive in Car Show will be held on Sunday, June 30, with registration from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., judging from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and awards at 2:30 p.m. There is no fee to enter.
Sunday is also the day of the Dutch Oven Gathering, which will be set up at 8 a.m., with judging and tasting by the public at 11 a.m. Participants will compete in the categories of brunch and dessert.
The Tractor Show runs all week from June 24-30, with judging occurring on Saturday, June 29.
