WASHINGTON - With exactly two weeks until Election Day, Theresa Greenfield stopped in Washington for a tour and quick bite.
The U.S. Senate candidate has held more than 300 events during the campaign. Trying to be considerate of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Greenfield said she has held both in-person and virtual events.
She stopped at Café Dodici on Tuesday to tour the businesses and discuss how to grow Iowa's economy and her 'back on our feet” plan.
Owner Lorraine Williams spoke about her three businesses and the revitalization of the downtown.
Before heading to Washington, Greenfield stopped at the Cider House in Fairfield.
Greenfield said if you have been to one small town, you have been to one small town.
'Every small town has a story, they have something special about them,” Greenfield said.
Williams pointed out the State Theater and the Brinton film collections as two unique pieces of Washington.
An issue that is on many Iowan's minds is the impact of the derecho and how to recover.
Recently, it has been determined that the derecho was the most costly thunderstorm disaster in U.S. history.
Greenfield said she spent time in Cedar Rapids with Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer handing out food, water, batteries and more.
She said Iowa did not get help quick enough. She said there needs to be long-term planning.
'This is the third major storm … that Cedar Rapids has in about 12 years,” Greenfield said.
A few areas Greenfield wants to take a look at is crop insurance and debris removal.
In her plan to put Iowan's back on their feet, Greenfield laid out five areas of focus - keep Iowa safe, put our workers first, rebuild our economy, expand access to affordable health care and keep promises on hard-earned benefits.
For the next two weeks, Greenfield plans to continue traveling the state, both in person and virtually, encouraging people to vote.
