WAYLAND — Crowds filled with ghouls, goblins, and other similar Halloween creatures will fill Main Street in Wayland next week as Greet and Treat returns.
From 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, local businesses will line Main Street to hand out candy and other goodies as they greet the inevitably large crowd that attends each year.
Treaters are invited to dress up for the event in fall attire or costumes. The line for Greet and Treat will begin on the west side of city hall at the stop sign on the corner of Jefferson and Main streets. Each treater will receive a bag provided by the city then released to visit with local businesses up and down Main Street.
Those wishing to participate as greeters should call city hall to confirm a spot. Participants are welcome to choose the level at which they participate. They can go all out and create a whole display or simply show up with a table or vehicle trunk. Goodies for the treaters can include sweet treats, business related items, or something else. Greeters participating should enter from the east side of Main and Washington streets to set up displays anytime after 2 p.m. the day of.
In previous years this event has filled the street with music, games, and plenty of smiles. In previous years, BTS Sanitation went with a more involved display for greeting treaters as Justin Stein, dressed as Oscar the Grouch handed out goodies from inside one of the company’s small dumpsters. Children were pleased last year when Crawfordsville Fire Department offered firetruck rides complete with sirens. McCoy’s gave treaters the opportunity to try their hand at a toilet paper toss game as they greeted them.
In addition to the Greet and Treat event, treaters can enjoy traditional trick-or-treating on Halloween from 5:30-7 p.m. throughout Wayland.
