Now that the lot formerly occupied by Linda Lou's Daycare has been demolished, construction on the new building for AllenMitchell CPAs & Consultants can begin.
On Tuesday, July 2, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new building. It is expected to be 9,000 square feet with the option of building up to 12,000 square feet. The building will house AllenMitchell CPAs & Consultants and two other local businesses. The names of the businesses are not being released at this time.
During the ceremony, David Allen Black, co-owner of AllenMitchell CPAs & Consultants, said starting the process was difficult, but he was excited to see progress being made.
'It's been a process, I'll tell you that,” he said to the crowd at the ceremony. 'A lot of people have had to come together at the right time and it's all worked out really nice.”
Mobilization is set to begin the week of July 8 with construction taking about 5 months. AllenMitchell CPAs & Consultants are expected to move into the new building by Thanksgiving.
Washington Mayor Jaron Rosien said he was glad to see the progress being made on the building
'We're thrilled to see it move forward. Obviously there were obstacles for each of us in different ways,” he said. 'We're all motivated to see it come to fruition and it's exciting to be here today.”
The Linda Lou's Daycare building, which was formerly on the property, was riddled with asbestos and created a difficult start to the construction process. Mitchell D. Billups, co-owner of AllenMitchell CPAs & Consultants, said the new building has been a massive undertaking for the company as they had to view the plans financially and design the space to fit their needs, but he is happy with the result.
'It's been great,” he said. 'It's been kind of a crazy 18 months, but nothing you could really plan for. It's come together really nicely and the city has been really great to work with.”
