May. 5, 2022 9:20 am
WASHINGTON– Mark Poggenpohl, 38, of Iowa City, was found guilty by a jury on May 4, of delivery of methamphetamine, a Class C Felony.
The charge was from an incident on March 18, 2021, in the parking lot of the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort.
A person cooperating with law enforcement purchased 3.7 grams of methamphetamine from Poggenpohl for $150. The cooperating witness testified at trial that he saw several other bags of methamphetamine in a Poggenpohl’s backpack, and after the drug deal, a narcotics detective saw Poggenpohl with a backpack in the entrance of the casino.
After the guilty verdict, Poggenpohl admitted to being a habitual offender and having previously been convicted of two or more felonies. Poggenpohl was on parole from prison for a separate felony meth case when he sold meth in this case.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 10. Because of Poggenpohl’s criminal history, he may be sentenced to prison for 15 to 45 years.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County Drug Task Force, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Coralville Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement collectively earned this guilty verdict.
