Habitat for Humanity receives home repair grant from Lowe’s
Nov. 19, 2023 2:10 pm
IOWA CITY — Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity has received a $31,900 grant to help repair two homes in Washington and Homestead, Iowa.
With the support of this grant, Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity will assist two households through the Helping Hands program, which provides critical repairs and accessibility modifications to low-income households in Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Louisa, and Washington Counties. The projects will focus on bathroom modifications, incorporating ADA features to enhance safety and independence for individuals with limited mobility. Specifically, the modifications will include the installation of low-threshold showers with nonslip flooring, benches, grab bars, and raised toilets. The funding will also be used to replace one roof to ensure the home’s structural integrity.
“We’re thrilled to have the support of Lowe’s as we work to make homes safe and livable for those in need,” said Helping Hands Program Manager Edith Jones.
The funding from Lowe’s is part of a two-year, $6 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International to support home repair and preservation efforts in owner-occupied homes. Through this partnership, more than 75 local Habitat affiliates will complete more than 480 projects this year to address critical health and safety issues in homes across the U.S. Since 2003, Lowe’s and Habitat have worked together to help more than 18,000 people build or improve a place to call home.
