A pair of area agencies ? the Des Moines County Regional Solid Waste Commission and the Great River Regional Waste Authority ? are hosting a household hazardous waste disposal day Saturday, Sept. 29.
The event is free to all Henry County residents.
Examples of acceptable items include: oil-based or lead-based paints; nickel cadmium batteries; most rechargeable batteries (Ni-Cad); button batteries; hazardous household cleaners, aerosol cleaners; unused or banned pesticides, fertilizers and pool chemicals.
Items not acceptable include motor vehicle batteries; latex paint; motor oil and oil filters; tires; explosives/ammunition; radioactive material; containers larger than five gallons.
The event will be at the Henry County Highway Department (two blocks west of Hy-Vee Food Store), or 1510 E. Washington St.
Appointments must be made before dropping items off. Appointment can be made and questions answered by calling 877-429-2436 or 319-753-8758. Appointments begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 29.
