Residents will see big changes with small improvements implemented across the county.
During a Board of Supervisors meeting on Thursday, Nov. 1, county department heads talked about cellphone towers, Mt. Union's new street signs, and emergency management plans.
Planning and Zoning
Henry County will have three new cellphone towers in the near future.
The towers were approved by the board of adjustments for better 911 coverage, said Henry County planning and zoning director Joe Buffington during a Board of Supervisors meeting on Thursday, Nov. 1.
The towers will be 300-feet tall guide towers and will be put up by AT&T, Buffington said.
All existing towers will get new fiber-optic lines put in to further improve coverage, added Jelen McCall, Henry County Road Department office manager.
In other news, Mt. Union will receive all new street signs, for which the 911 board approved funding.
Emergency Management
Walt Jackson, Emergency Management coordinator, is planning a countywide emergency management exercise for next year to streamline communication and emergency response across the county. He is also working with school superintendents across Henry County to create 'high quality” emergency plans.
Jackson worked with area nursing homes in October to finalize their emergency plans and test them. This qualifies the nursing homes for state aid too, Jackson said.
In other news, Jackson said that Henry County residents have been leaving their sharps at Emergency Management. Emergency Management does not take sharps; however, sharps can be left at Sanitation on Fridays and Saturday mornings, and Sanitation will provide a replacement sharps container.
Sharps should never be left in a plastic bag.
