Mike Hampton was appointed the newest member of the Henry County Public Health Board Tuesday morning. The Henry County Supervisors voted for Hampton to replace previous board member Greg Moeller, who resigned after being elected to the Board of Supervisors.
'In order to maintain gender balance, we'd prefer the appointment to be a male,” Moeller said. 'And I believe that all three of the applicants we received are qualified for this position.”
Henry County Public Health staff member Lori Bolin voiced her opinion on the matter.
'In the last five years that I've worked at Public Health, we've always had someone as a representative of the community,” Bolin said. 'I think it's very beneficial to have insight from multiple sectors that is not all medical.”
'We don't have that on the board right now, so we would be much more well-rounded if we had someone that is just a member of the community,” she said.
The Henry County Supervisors moved to appoint Mike Hampton after discussion, in which Hampton stated his countless involvement with the county.
'I think everyone knows I've been very involved in the county,” Hampton said. 'EMS task force, jail referendums, school referendums, the Chamber, Old Threshers, the Festival of Lights, I could go on and on and on. ”
'My interest is Henry County,” he said. 'This pandemic has made me more interested in health, as well as my age, and the health of all the citizens of Henry County is vital.”
In the past, Hampton has been vocal for Public Health and health in general, and he refuses to back down in the face of politics.
'I won't bring politics into it,” he said. 'I have been very outspoken about health in the past and will continue to be outspoken for the future.”
