The Henry County Conservation Board is looking to update the Oakland Mills footbridge. Last Thursday at the Henry County Board of Supervisors meeting, Conservation Director Caleb Waters brought the project to attention.
'Right now we're in the beginning processes of renovating it,” Waters said. 'What that looks like is we're looking into grants and figuring out what exactly the history of the footbridge is.”
The footbridge still is secure and open for pedestrian traffic.
'It's still safe, we just want to update some of the poles that are deteriorating due to past debris damage,” he said. 'I want to keep the historical value of the bridge, so it's important we do the renovation the right way.”
In addition to the bridge upkeep, Waters wants a historical informational panel for the footbridge.
'We're working with the Historical Society, and hopefully we'll be able to find the history in the archives,” Waters said. 'It's there. It's just a matter of finding it.”
