MT. PLEASANT - The Henry County Courthouse will be reopening its doors next Monday.
At the Board of Supervisors meeting on Thursday morning, the board decided to unlock the courthouse doors starting June 8. Each department housed within the building will choose how to proceed with county business. In an email to department heads, board chair Marc Lindeen asked each department to 'have signage outside to make the public aware.” With the reopening, the Board of Supervisors also will restart in-person meetings, twice a week.
During their meeting, the Supervisors also held a work session to continue to discuss the potential transfer of emergency medical services to the county. The board received an agreement for utilization for medical services as well as an asset purchase agreement from Henry County Health Center, which are currently being reviewed by the county attorney, according to Lindeen. The board decided to hold off discussing the agreements until after the review is completed.
The supervisors held a phone call conference with Iowa County's EMS director, Adam Rabe, to ask questions about how the county handled the transfer of service. In previous discussions, the Board of Supervisors expressed concern at the cost of the service to taxpayers due to inadequate reimbursement from the government programs. The supervisors are also considering options on housing the service, including whether to lease with HCHC or potentially move the service to a vacant county building on Clay Street.
