A federal disaster declaration for Henry County has been declared by FEMA.
Henry County auditor Shelly Barber said during the supervisors meeting on Tuesday, July 23, that due to the extreme weather from March 12-June 15, the location was declared. A meeting will be held at a later time where public officials can ask questions and look into what kinds of repairs will be necessary. Repairs for homeowners were addressed in a previous declaration, as this one will only be for public entities.
In other news, construction work in Henry County is in full swing as county engineer Jake Hotchkiss reported crews are hard at work on multiple construction projects. Hotchkiss reported crews patched a pavement blow up on Oasis Avenue, replaced entrance pipes in the Winfield area and hauled rock to Baltimore township. Shoring for the Franklin Avenue bridge will continue as crews plan to drive pile later in the week.
The J20 bridge, by Lowell, will see encasements poured this week and grading on 260th street will begin next week.
