MT. PLEASANT – The 2024 Henry County Fair is promising a week of exciting entertainment at the grandstand.
The fun begins on Friday, July 19 with the IFPA Truck & Tractor Pull. That event begins at 6:30 p.m. A pit pass is $15. For general admission, tickets are $7 for those 11 and older, and $5 for those aged 4-10. Three and under are free.
Russell Krieger, who is in charge of the grandstand events during the fair, said this is the ninth year the fair has hosted the IFPA.
“Next year will be No. 10, so we’re going to do something special,” Krieger said. “We have a really good relationship with them.”
Something new this year will be a truck and tractor on display that afternoon, plus a driver for each one, so the public can see the vehicles up close and chat with the people who drive them.
The following day is the Demolition Derby starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 20. Pits open at 3 p.m.
The Demolition Derby will be officiated by 3T Promotions. It costs $50 to enter. To attend the event, tickets are $10 for those 11 and older, while 10 and under are $5. A pit pass is $20. The event will have three divisions: 80s Bonestock; Mini Van, Truck, SUV; and Mid-size.
The payout is an $8,000 purse, divided up per car count. All demo vehicles must be signed in one hour before start time, and must have passed inspection.
“This has been a great event the last four or five years,” Krieger said. “We’ve really put a crowd in the grandstands.”
Those who are in the mood for live music are in luck on Saturday night because they’ll get to enjoy a beer garden while listening to Jive Radio from 9-11 p.m. The band’s members hail from Southeast Iowa.
An ATV Race will wrap up the weekend’s entertainment, starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 21. Krieger said that, instead of following a rodeo format as in years past, this year’s ATV Race will follow a Tourist Trophy course, an oval track with small hills, similar to the one at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
Also on Sunday afternoon, the sampling for the barbecue competition will begin at 1 p.m., and then the wine and home brew contest will begin at 2 p.m.
Krieger said he’s looking forward to another great fair in 2024.
