MT. PLEASANT - The Henry County Farm Bureau will be offering a suite of scholarships to members and their children.
In addition to the yearly $10,000 scholarship, the County chapter has raised an additional $4,000. The only requirements are that the applicant is a Senior in high school with a 2.5 Grade Point Average, and that they (or their parents) be a Farm Bureau member. They must plan to go to a four-year institution, such as a university or technical college, but may major in anything they please.
The Iowa Farm Bureau is a statewide organization supporting agricultural interests and education. On their website, they tout the work they've done: $125 million worth of rural reinvestment in 10 years. Farm education in the classroom. Comprehensive health care for Farm Bureau members, in a time when Iowa possesses one of the fastest-growing rates of new cancer in the Union, due largely to pollutants some farmers are exposed to every day. For $45 a year, you can support this mission.
January also brings the “New Member Giveaway.” Anyone who joins the Farm Bureau as a first time member before Jan. 31 will be entered into an otherwise-free drawing. The winner receives a Milwaukee M12 jobsite radio and a 30-can cooler.
Feb. 6 will bring Farm Bureau Bowling Night. Anyone interested should RSVP to reserve a lane.
March 20 will bring the Supermarket Sweep. Teams will compete to complete a grocery list, racing around Hy-Vee. All items purchased are paid for by corporate sponsors, and donated to the Fellowship Cup food bank.
