The Henry County Historic Preservation Commission met Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Henry County Heritage Center. Attending were commissioners Chad Broursseau, Johanna Crawford, Joel Garretson, Caroline Lehman, Judy Rawson, Mary Savage, Cathie Schreiner, and Pat White.
Larry D. Roth has announced his retirement after many years of service as a commissioner, representing the City of Wayland, Jefferson Township and the surrounding rural area of northeast Henry County. He was instrumental in obtaining the recent National Register of Historic Places designation of Wayland's historic residential district as well as previously placing a number of other sites to the National Register in Wayland and Jefferson Township. Roth also played a large role in many of the commission's projects including three books on transportation, rural schools, and cemeteries in Henry County.
In other business, the commission is continuing to work on its latest project, a guidebook of historic sites in the county. The project still is in the conceptual stage and commissioners are beginning to gather information and ideas for the format. The next meeting will be Jan. 15 at the Henry County Courthouse.
