In their final meeting of 2020, the Henry County Board of Supervisors said farewell to a long-serving member and welcomed his replacement.
At the Dec. 31 meeting, Supervisor Gary See sat in on his final meeting, and incoming Supervisor Chad White was sworn in.
'I want to thank you for all your years of service and as friends,” board Chairman Marc Lindeen said to See. 'We appreciate that.
'For 22 years, this guy has been on my right-hand side, and I'm going to miss him.”
Supervisor Greg Moeller, who was sworn in for third term on the board Thursday, said, 'It's been a pleasure working with you Gary.”
See served six terms - 24 years - on the Board of Supervisors.
In November, he told the Southeast Iowa Union that he will miss 'the responsibility and serving the citizens” but is looking forward to taking on new activities.
'With COVID, it's a little hard, but I do have a list of volunteering and other activities I'm interested in doing,” See said.
Incoming Supervisor Chad White was sworn in at the Thursday meeting.
'From my own standpoint, I'm looking forward to working with Chad,” Lindeen said. 'I know he's going to be a great asset.”
White, who has a background in law enforcement, has served on various boards throughout the county.
He is a law enforcement investigator with Iowa Department of Transportation, Bureau of Investigation.
Also taking their oaths of office were Sheriff Rich McNamee and Auditor Shelly Barber. Both ran uncontested in November.
McNamee is returning for his third term in office.
Barber previously served as the deputy auditor for the county for 28 years before being elected auditor nine years ago.
District Court Judge Wyatt Peterson administered the oaths to the elected officials.
As the meeting drew to a close, See's last official act as supervisor was to offer a motion to adjourn.
