MT. PLEASANT – Thanks to some debt coming off the books at the end of the current fiscal year in June, the Henry County Secondary Roads Department will be getting some new storage facilities.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the Board of Supervisors approved issuing $600,000 in general obligation capital loan notes to pay for three new storage structures for the road department.
“The three-year bond that we had before is up at the end of June,” County Auditor Shelly Barber said. “We’re just reissuing another one to build (the department’s) salt shed, cold storage shed and semi-truck shed. Our last one was $675,000.”
Barber explained that the new notes will take the place of the expiring ones, so there will be no additional property tax levy and that the county normally carries a three-year note for capital projects.
“It’s never a new increase,” she said. “It has to be used for capital projects.”
The notes will be paid out over the next three fiscal years, beginning with the fiscal year that starts July 1.
The cold storage shed, which will be used for the county’s paint truck and roadside vegetation materials, will cost $100,000.
The new salt shed will cost $125,000, while the new facility to house the county’s large trucks and equipment will cost $375,000.
Board Chair Greg Moeller was asked where the new sheds would be built.
“These will be built out at the secondary road department out by Hy-Vee,” Moeller responded.
