Henry County took a step toward replacing a small bridge on 220th Street (Winfield Avenue) Tuesday.
The Board of Supervisors approved a contract with Calhoun-Burns & Associates of West Des Moines to put together the final design and plans to replace the bridge, which is east of Marsh Avenue outside of Winfield.
“It’s a small bridge that we’ll be replacing with a twin 12-foot-by-10-foot box culvert,” Henry County Engineer Jake Hotchkiss said. “Calhoun Burns was hired to do the original preliminary plans, and we’ve contracted with them to do the final plans and final design to get it ready for letting with Iowa DOT.”
Hotchkiss said that construction is expected to be started sometime next year.
“The construction would most likely take place next summer during next year’s construction season,” he said. “It will be let next January to March, depending on when we get all of the right of way acquired.”
Henry County will pay for the project using Farm-to-Market funds.
Farm-to-Market funds are allocated to counties from the state’s Road Use Tax Fund.
