HENRY COUNTY - The Henry County Sheriff, Rich McNamee, gave an update to the county supervisors at their Thursday meeting, confirming he had officially handed off the keys to the former office and jail.
The transition comes after McNamee and his office moved to their new 108-bed jail facility on Grand Avenue last November.
Supervisor Marc Lindeen noted McNamee led a walk-through of the former sheriff's office on Tuesday morning before handing off the keys.
'Everything seems in order and he turned over all the keys, and therefore we are in a secure position,” Lindeen said.
McNamee added that all of his office's belongings have been vacated from the old building.
'As the new utility bills come to me, I'll be forwarding them on, under the direction of the [board's] chairman, to the county auditor so that we can transfer those as they are incoming,” McNamee said.
McNamee also asked the supervisors, moving forward, to give him advance notice to any actions they take that affect his office. McNamee noted the locks to the old jail had been changed and court was being held in the building without his knowledge while the building was still under his jurisdiction.
During the meeting, the supervisors also approved a resolution to hire an assistant county attorney as well as accepted a big from Quincy Fence Company for $1,855 to remove a fence around an exercise yard at the old jail facility.
