MT. PLEASANT - On Tuesday, Dec. 30, the Henry County Board of Supervisors held its last meeting of 2025.
They focused on various boards and committees, whose members’ terms expired with the new year. The Henry County Health Board in particular has seen much interest, with five applicants for a single open position. Supervisor Marc Lindeen hopes to have the decision made by Jan. 7, the board’s next meeting.
According to KILJ, a 10 percent increase in the wages of county-elected officials (excluding the supervisors) was voted down. Supervisor Steve Detrick claimed he would not consider the matter due to the state of the County’s finances. There was, however, an agreement to revisit the matter when a clearer picture of the County’s budget was available.
In his weekly report, County Engineer Jake Hotchkiss described progress on the 235th street bridge. Contractors completed removal of the decking, pausing for the holidays. Although this week has seen the moving of some materials, all other work on the bridge has paused for the holidays. Next week will see it resume.
Brush crews have spent the week working on River Road with a Gradall. New London Road north of 310th Street intersection has also seen excavator work. Territory operators have been engaged in blading and spot hauling, with the rest of the crew hauling spot rock to the operators.
Plans for volunteer medical assistance in Trenton Township are dependent on insurance. The service would render on-scene medical assistance at the scene of car crashes, before the arrival of an ambulance. There is some confusion over insurance coverage and liability. The individual who has offered the service, not named at the meeting, was described as a forty-year veteran of healthcare and emergency response. According to the Board of Supervisors, the County’s current insurance provider quoted $100 to add this gentleman to their coverage, with the caveat that he would have to be affiliated with the County in some way or form.
