Heritage Area Agency on Aging plans 65-hour giveaway
Jul. 10, 2023 12:13 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS — Aging adults continue to be in need, experiencing isolation and loneliness daily. Services supporting older adults remain critical to a healthy aging process. Heritage Area Agency on Aging remains committed to serving aging adults through our programs and services, working every day to empower dignity and independence for older Iowans.
Give65, hosted by Home Instead Charities, is an opportunity to rally our community to support older adults experiencing abuse and neglect. From July 11-14, Heritage AAA is participating in its eighth annual event, a 65-hour online giving event exclusively for charitable organizations serving aging adults. The organization is raising funds for its Elder Rights Program, which specializes in detecting elder abuse, working with law enforcement to address the situation and helping impacted seniors start on a new, safe path forward.
Gifts can be made during the event at: www.give65.org/HeritageAAA
The generosity of the community helps power the mission of Heritage AAA, which is why we’re asking for support during the Give65 Event. Home Instead Charities is offering matching funds, with each participating organization eligible to receive up to $5,000 in matching dollars, while funds are available. Additionally, prizes will be awarded to the organizations with the most individual donors.
“Cases of elder abuse are on the rise in Eastern Iowa, and so is the severity of our average case. Give65 is a tremendous opportunity for our community to rally in support of seniors and make the area a safer place to grow old,” says Barbara Werning, Executive Director.
The 65-hour Give65 Event begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11 and concludes at 1 a.m. on July 14.
“Through services offered by Heritage, aging adults are supported and celebrated in their aging journey. The charitable sector serves a critical role in supporting aging adults in need, helping them to age with independence and dignity, and we thank all of those who financially support this important work,” says Jisella Dolan, chair of the board of Home Instead Charities.
All donations are tax deductible in the United States. For more information about Heritage AAA visit www.heritageaaa.org.
