RIVERSIDE - The Highland Community School District held an emergency board meeting on Dec. 2 to vote on a bid to repair their high school's roof. The board has accepted a $109,680 bid from Precision Roofing.
The building's roof suffered wind damage at around 10:30 a.m. last Wednesday, Nov. 27. Combined with rain from thunderstorms, heavy winds peeled off a portion of the roof that sits above the high school gym, along with its insulation.
According to the district's superintendent Ken Crawford, with the help of the community, the district was able to lay about 1,000 bricks atop tarps to cover the damaged area to keep rain and snow out until repairs can be made.
The district's board voted to accept a bid from Precision Roofing on Monday evening. The district is responsible for a $1,000 deductible, with the rest of the repairs being covered by the district's insurance. The superintendent explained that the building is experiencing some leakage in the Northwest side due to the damage, which has made the need for repairs more urgent.
Crawford also added that construction is slated to begin this Friday, with hopes that repairs will be completed by the following Monday.
