RIVERSIDE - The Highland middle and high school heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is under construction and should be done by the start of school.
Superintendent Ken Crawford said it is a lot of rewiring old conduits, buildings and rooms while cutting holes in the walls.
Some of the work was delayed as the new windows took longer to receive due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
'It will air-condition, heat, dehumidify, do all the things you want to do in a classroom,” Crawford said.
Everything is on time, Crawford said, even though looking around the school it doesn't seem like it.
'Something always looks like it's not going to get done, and all of a sudden it pulls together that last week,” Crawford said.
The brick building was built in 1964-65, so when the sun comes out and hits the bricks it heats up.
Crawford said the HVAC will help with the educational environment and keeps the building a little bit more modern.
'Hopefully that will reduce the early outs for heat we sometimes get in August and early September,” Crawford said.
Crawford said you just have to keep up to date on the repairs and remodels otherwise in 25 years there's a big fix.
The Highland middle and high school are in the middle of replacing the HVAC system. The construction is planned to be completed by the start of school. (Caitlin Yamada/ The Union)
