The Hillsboro Public Library?s first Second Monday Story Time, held on Monday, Sept. 12, was well attended by area children who listened to Joanna Reno read the book, Wild About Books by Judy Sierra with pictures by Marc Brown.
The book is about a librarian who parked her bookmobile at the zoo and got the animals interested in reading. In the story the giraffes liked tall books, the bears liked books about bears and the hyenas liked joke books.
After the story everyone was given a cookie, which represented the zoo and frosted it with green frosting, the grass, then placed an animal cracker, representing one of the animals at the zoo, in the middle of the grass, then the children ate their little zoo.
Some of the books or types of books mentioned in the story were displayed for the children to check out and read at home. The next Second Monday Story Time is Monday, Oct.10 from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m.
The Hillsboro Library?s annual bake and book sale and luncheon is Saturday, Oct.1 at the Hillsboro Community Center. There will be many books for children, adults, fiction and nonfiction, paperback romance novels, military and western books along with baked goods to choose from.
The bake and book sale is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. On the menu will be grilled hamburgers, brats, baked beans, slaw and chips. Stop by and browse the tables of books and baked goods, have lunch and help support the Hillsboro Public Library.
The library has started a column or article for its newsletter called Patron Review. It is for any patrons who would like to write a review on a particular book or author they either enjoyed very much or didn?t enjoy reading and would like to share their experience with others.
You may send an e-mail to Hillsborobooks@windstream.net or drop off a typed or hand written review during library hours. Please include the author?s name, title of the book, your name and phone number where you can be reached for questions.
If you have questions on what to write, please call the Hillsboro Library at 219-253-4000 Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 3 to 5:30 p.m. or Saturday 9 to 11 a.m.
