Historic photo donated to Y

WASHINGTON — Charlotte Anderson, Chairperson of the Washington YWCA endowment has presented a framed photo of Edna McCarty, the first executive director of that organization, to current Washington County Y Director Amy Schulte.

"The donation of this photo represents the efforts by all of the YWCA women who worked to bring equality, and resources to women and children,“ said Schulte. ”We have worked to continue their purpose and incorporate into the services we do through the YMCA. We are honored to display this important piece of our past along with our other historical photos in our lobby."

The YWCA (Young Women's Christian Association) reorganized in 2012 into the Women of Washington, Iowa Endowment, which has continued to support programs and services to women and children in the community. Most notably, the WOWIE organization funded the construction of the child care center at Stewart School.
